Agreement: Kaushik Mukherjee, Principal Secretary (Higher Education), and Dieter Kretz, head, Didactics, Bosch Rexroth, signing the memorandum of understanding to set up knowledge centres, in Bangalore on Monday. Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy looks on.

BANGALORE: The State Government and Bosch Rexroth, Germany, on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish nine “world class” knowledge centres in engineering colleges to provide training to polytechnic and engineering students, diploma holders and industry personnel.

Dieter Kretz, head, Didactics, Bosch Rexroth, and Kaushik Mukherjee, Principal Secretary (Higher Education), signed the MoU in the presence of Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy.

The company also signed MoUs with M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, and BLD College of Engineering, Bijapur, to set up centres. It had signed a MoU with Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore, on August 17.

Addressing presspersons, Mr. Shankaramurthy said the centres, established under the guidance of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Project (TEQIP) aided by the World Bank, would enhance employability for the diploma holders as well as impart training in latest automation technology for the production industry in the State. About 10,000 students and industry personnel would receive training in these centres in a year.

The centres with “state-of-the-art equipment” would provide training in areas such as hydraulics, pneumatics, sensorics, robotics and mechatronics. “The centres will impart training for industry personnel in the selection, operation and maintenance of industrial drives and controls,” he said. Faculty members of the engineering college would be trained as train the trainer (TTT) by Bosch Rexroth. Students on admission to the six-week course would be charged a nominal fee while industry personnel would have to pay a higher fee, an official said.
