CHENNAI: Leading players, including G.B. Prakash (GM norm holder), and teams will take part in the State team and blitz chess championship to be jointly organised by the Tiruvallur District unit and the Rajalakshmi Engineering College (Thandalam), near here from September 17 to 21.
Leading teams like Indian Bank, Southern Railway and last year’s winner, ICF, have already confirmed their participation.
This was disclosed by Dr. Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson, Organising Committee and also the Chairperson, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, at a press meet here on Monday.
Apart from Prakash, other leading players include K.V. Santharam, V. Hariharan, K. Gopalakrishnan (all Indian Bank), S. Mari Arul, P. Sharma, D.P. Singh and A. Sankar (all Southern Railway), IM R. Balasubramanian, K. Gunasekaran, Syed Anwar Sazholi, C. Nataraj, C.J. Suresh Kumar (ICF) and also India’s first IM Manuel Aaron (Thuthukodi District) will be seen in action.
The team championship will be played on a Swiss format of seven rounds, while the blitz championship will be of nine-round Swiss format. — Special Correspondent
