The 30-minute road blockade by the United Democratic Front in various parts of the State on Monday signalled a new trend in staging political agitations. People are inclined to believe that day-long hartals and violent forms of protest, which had contributed much to the image of Kerala as an investor-unfriendly State, seems to be undergoing a drastic change. The first winds of change came when the day-long hartals were condensed to 12 hours. Then came the broad understanding that IT and industrial parks would be exempted. The latest move to confine a stir to 30 minutes has been widely welcomed by people. They point out that the disruption caused by a 30-minute protest is nothing compared to the day-long protests that bring life to a standstill. T. Nandakumar
