This Day That Age
A big ovation was given to Prime Minister Nehru when he arrived in Srinagar on September 11 on a two-day visit to Kashmir. This is Mr. Nehru’s first visit to “the land of his ancestors” after 52 months. He was accompanied by the Defence Minister, Mr. Krishna Menon. When Mr. Nehru alighted from the plane he was received by the State legislators, high civil and military officers and National Conference workers, who garlanded him. A group of school boys presented him bouquets. Later the Prime Minister drove to the city along a route decorated with arches and buntings. The seven-mile-long route from the airport to the city was lined by eager crowds.
