This Day That Age
Mr. M.G. Monani, General Manager of the Bombay Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking, told a press conference in Bombay on September 10 that the proposed underground railway scheme for the city, to be carried out in two stages, would cost Rs. 28.59 crores. Mr. Y. Higashi, Director-General and Chief Adviser of Teito Rapid Transit Authority, Tokyo, has submitted a report on the scheme and it is being considered. The report states that geologically Bombay presents little difficulty for the construction of underground railway. The first stage covers a distance of 4.38 miles and the second stage 3.78 miles. The period required for the actual construction of each of the two stages is four years.
