Camps in park moved

Staff Reporter

BANDIPUR NATIONAL PARK: Apart from reducing staff strength, the Forests Department has also decided to close down nine anti-poaching camps in Hediyala, Maddur, Bandipur, Moyar, N. Begur, Moolehole, A.M. Gudi and Moliyuru ranges following staff removal besides closing down movement camps established for special surveillance during monsoon months when offences on forests increase.

While the department had asked Rs. 15 lakh to set up new anti-poaching camps and Rs. 6.75 lakh for setting up movement camps during monsoon, it did not receive any funds.

Though some of the anti-poaching camps have been closed, senior officials insist that the camps have been moved to other locations that are identified as strategic.
