Letters to the Editor
The reported comments of Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Vidharbha farmers (Sept. 11) are deplorable. One is reminded of Nero who fiddled while Rome burnt. Making fun of farmers who are prepared to end their lives in distress cannot be pardoned. The Ministers seem to have forgotten that they are part of the political system that has miserably failed to provide social, economic and political justice to the people.
M.J. Ruben,
The sweeping generalities and innuendos that the two leaders have uttered against the helpless farmers of Vidharbha are callous and insensitive. India in general and the Congress in particular will be much better off without such politicians.
Shahabuddin Nadeem,
