THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has expressed happiness over the way Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had resolved the dispute between Kerala and Tamil Nadu over the formation of the Salem railway division. Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a function here on Tuesday, he said Kerala’s concerns were addressed to a certain extent through the new decision taken by Railways in the matter of Salem division. A portion of the rail network currently under railway divisions in Tamil Nadu would become part of the Palakkad division. It was quite satisfying that Kerala could press its case strongly at the Centre, he added. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his initiative in amicably sorting out the issues related to the formation of the Salem railway division. Mr. Chennithala also thanked Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and urged him to favourably consider some of the other demands put forward by Kerala for railway development. The Railways should be prepared to give top priority to the setting up of a railway coach factory and doubling of tracks, he said.
