Man held for attempted rape

KALPENI: A labourer from Alappuzha was arrested by the Lakshadweep Police for attacking a local woman after trying to rape her on Tuesday afternoon. The police said Yasodharan V.S., who was working on Kalpeni island along with five others from Kerala, attacked Bambathi K.C., 45, with a sharp kitchen instrument. Ms. Bambathi has been admitted to Kalpeni Public Health Centre with stab injuries on her left thigh.

The police said Mr. Yasodharan approached Ms. Bambathi for a glass of water at 1 p.m. When she went into the kitchen to get the water, Mr. Yasodharan reportedly tried to rape her. When she resisted, he stabbed her. The police booked him on rape charges.
