Assembly marshal arrested

BHUBANESWAR: City police on Tuesday arrested one Marshal of Orissa Legislative Assembly (OLA) for his alleged involvement in ransacking furniture of Assembly in an inebriated condition.

The Marshal, Amiya Kumar Satpathy, was arrested from his government quarter in Unit VI area on Tuesday, Inspector-in-Charge of Capital Police Station Harihar Dora said. Satpathy, who was charged with Section 294, 454, 427, 506 and 34 of IPC, was forwarded to court. His accomplice, Sudarshan Mohanty, who was also involved in ransacking, was still at large, police said.

Mohanty was working as a peon in OLA. According to police, on September 2, when OLA was closed, Satpathy and Mohanty after having drunk heavily directed security guard Bholanath Behera to open a room.

When Behera did not listen to them, they broke into rooms, including one of Assembly Secretary and damaged furniture.
