DEHRA DUN: The Uttarakhand Government is deeply concerned about the grave natural calamities situation in the State and scientists will be tasked to identify the problem areas and suggest solutions and if need be recommend relocation of the people living in highly dangerous zones to safer places, Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri told landslide victims at Baram village in Pithoragarh district on Tuesday. Inspecting the losses, the Chief Minister distributed relief and promised more assistance for total rehabilitation of the poor for which a major scheme had been sanctioned. Landslides and flash floods leave several dead besides destroying houses and crops in the higher districts every year. Later, talking to bus mishap victims at the Almora Base Hospital, Mr. Khanduri cautioned the officials responsible for safe transport of strict action if they failed to check overloading, operation of unfit vehicles or drivers who were unfit for the hazardous hill roads. Expressing anguish over the large number of fatal road mishaps in the State, Mr. Khanduri urged the passengers to be alert and travel only in vehicles which are fit and have good drivers. “The passengers should ensure that the driver is not overworked, drunk or careless,” he said, adding that a few precautions by the passengers and drivers could stave off most mishaps.
