NEW DELHI: Three young men have been arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly carrying out a hoax sting operation on three Members of Parliament from Jharkhand.
According to the police, the three Jharkhand MPs lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday saying that four men recently approached them posing as officials of the Tribal Affairs Ministry and offered to launch a multi-crore scheme of their Ministry in their constituency.
“According to the complaint, the four demanded Rs.5 lakh to facilitate the launching of the scheme and even offered 5 per cent share to the legislators from the project,” said a police officer.
Following the complaint, a hunt was launched and three persons – Pankaj Gupta, Ratandeep Gupta and Rajeev Patel – were arrested on Monday morning and charged with impersonation and cheating.
Their fourth accomplice Sanjay Tiwari is absconding. The three have earlier carried out sting operations for a Hindi news channel.
The police raided their Mayur Vihar office and claimed to have seized several incriminating documents. Further investigation in the matter is on.
