Staff Reporter
Thiruvananthapuram: All the offices of the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in the State will become ‘paperless’ from October this year with the commissioning of the ongoing Rs.47.87 crore Fully Automated Services of Transport (FAST) project to network the offices. The computerisation of all offices except four has been completed and the remaining will be networked this month itself. The MVD offices yet to be computerised are Nedumangad, Guruvayur, Alathur, and Vandiperiyar. The civil and electrical works in these four offices have almost been completed. “The computerisation will be completed by October and all the offices of the MVD will become paperless after that,” secretary of the State Transport Authority and nodal officer of the computerisation project Alex Paul told The Hindu. The project is being implemented by Electronic Corporation of India Limited (ECIL). The motorists are now getting ‘any service from any counter’ from the front-end counters set up in the offices that have already been computerised. More space for RTO office
Mr. Paul said Regional Transport Office, Thiruvananthapuram, housed in Transport Bhavan, Fort, would get more space with the implementation of the project. The RTO housed in the first floor of the Transport Bhavan will be shifted to the second floor. The Computer Aided Learners Licence System (CALLS) that has been functioning in the second floor of the Transport Bhavan will continue to function there. In addition to the MVD headquarters housed at Transtowers, the MVD has 18 Regional Transport Offices, 42 Sub-Regional Transport Offices, 12 check-posts and four zonal offices.
