Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday accused the Mayawati Government of harassing its party workers and said probes launched into works carried out by the Mulayam Singh Yadav regime in Uttar Pradesh smacked of political vendetta. The probe ordered by the Mayawati Government into recruitment of over 22,000 police and PAC personnel during the SP regime was an act of political vendetta, party UP General Secretary and Mulayam’s brother Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters here. Asked about his name figuring in the alleged recruitment scam, he asked Mayawati to order a probe in this regard. The SP leader said he would quit politics if any charge was proved against him. He alleged the Uttar Pradesh Government was harassing SP workers in the State as was evident from FIRs filed against them. . The Samajwadi Party leader said his party would protest Government’s decision to ban student union polls in the State. PTI
