Doctors plan ‘Betrayal Day’

Staff Reporter

To stage dharna tomorrow for pay revision

Thiruvananthapuram: The doctors in Health Service have decided to observe September 13 as ‘Betrayal Day’ in protest against the Government’s failure to deliver the promises of pay revision and implementation of speciality cadre in service.

Doctors, under the banner of Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association, will stage a dharna before the Directorate of Health Services on Thursday

In a statement, KGMOA’s district unit pointed out that it has been a year since the Government gave a written agreement that pay hike and speciality cadre would be implemented by September 13, 2006.

Even after a special committee, set up under the Health Secretary, to work out the modalities of the implementation of speciality cadre had submitted its report, the Government had not taken any positive steps.

The Government had scant regard for Government doctors, many of whom worked round-the-clock during the recent epidemic to deliver good health care. Financial constraints did not seem be a problem when the Government agreed to revise the pay of six categories of employees last year, they said.

All Government doctors will go on a total no-cooperation strike across the State from October 1, KGMOA said.
