Evictees to get fair compensation

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: People who surrender their land and houses for the rail connectivity to Vallarpadam will be given fair compensation. The decision was taken at a meeting attended by people’s representatives and District Collector A.P.M Mohammed Hanish.

Those whose houses had to be pulled down will be given three cents each in the proposed township at Vaduthala. A qualified person from each of these households would be given employment at the Vallarpadam container terminal.

The other decisions include speedy completion of the proposed roundabout at the railway crossing at Pachalam, linkage of important roads in Vaduthala with the proposed coastal road and steps to put an end to drinking-water shortage in the area, once the HUDCO scheme is ready.

District-level purchase committees will soon be convened to decide on land-acquisition measures and the compensation to be paid.
