Woman held for dumping newborn child

CHENNAI: Police detained a 20-year-old woman on charges of allegedly dumping her new born child in garbage on Tuesday.

Police said Sinduja of Jones Nagar in Saidapet had given birth to a male child a couple of days ago. However, she had wrapped the child in a towel and left it on roadside garbage on Monday under the cover of darkness. When the child cried, public noticed and alerted the police.

Immediately, Kumaran Nagar police arrived at the spot and investigations with some of the neighbours revealed that the baby belonged to Sinduja.
