Protest against Sethu Samudram project

‘The project will harm marine life and the ecology of the area’


BANGALORE: Members of Ramsethu Rakshana Vedike, Karnataka, will block roads and the railway line on Wednesday, as part of the nationwide protest against the Sethu Samudram ship channel project near Rameshwaram.

B. Surendran, National Secretary of Rameshwaram Ramsethu Protection Movement, said that the project, among other things, would harm the marine life and the ecology of the area.

The project has drawn opposition from various quarters, including the fisher folk, environmentalists and marine engineers, said Mr. Surendran.

In Bangalore, the protest would be held between 10.a.m. and 11 a.m. at the City Railway Station, near the NGEF factory on Old Madras Road, near the APMC Yard in Yeshawantapur, near the Banashankari Temple and at Chandapura Circle on Hosur Road, he said.
