Jana Chaitanya Yatra arrives

VIJAYAWADA: The 24-day-long ‘Jana Chaitanya Yatra’ taken out by the Yuva Satta, the youth wing of the Lok Satta Party (LSP), to promote participation of youth in politics reached here on Wednesday.

The Yatra so far covered Ranga Reddy, Medak, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts. Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Yuva Satta State Advisor Raveendra Vepati expressed the view that it was only in politics that successors turned leaders, while in every other field new leaders emerge. The youth were averse to participating in politics, as it was regarded as ‘dirt’, he said.

Referring to the mushrooming of belt shops, which are unauthorised liquor shops, he demanded the government to initiate steps to close all such outlets in the State. Since sale of liquor through belt shops was a cognisable offence, the Lok Satta Party would educate people about the provision relating to ‘citizen’s arrest’ available under Section 43 of the CrPC.

The party would see to it that all belt shops were closed before October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
