Police had recovered a Rs. 400-crore land deal and a pistol from his house in a raid MALAPPURAM: M.P. Shamsuddeen aka Manalaya Shamsuddeen here on Wednesday denied the allegations levelled against him following a police raid at his house last week. A special police squad led by Inspector-General of Police (Ernakulam Range) Vinson M. Paul had recovered a Rs.400-crore land deal agreement and a pistol from Mr. Shamsuddeen’s house during a raid last Thursday as part of a massive crackdown on hawala operators in the district. Mr. Shamsuddeen claimed that the agreement was that of an unfulfilled land deal with a Coimbatore-based company. He said there was nothing illegal about the proposed land deal, which did not take place as he failed to get the land. As per the agreement signed between him and an agent of the company, Mr. Shamsuddeen was to take over 150 cents of land on Avinashi Road and sell it to the firm. ‘Failed deal’Mr. Shamsuddeen said the deal failed as he did not get the land. He said the reports that appeared in a section of the media linking the Rs.400-crore contract with the hawala deal had brought ignominy to his family. He said the pistol the police seized from his house was an airgun requiring no licence. “A friend of mine in Dubai gifted me that air pistol. I have all papers of its purchase. That it requires no licence is written on the box itself,” he said. Mr. Shamsuddeen claimed that he had not been into hawala business in the last four years. He said he was making a living by doing real estate business.
