Poll panel fiat to DCs
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: The State Election Commission (SEC) has directed deputy commissioners of all districts and election officers not to consider the recent changes in ward reservations effected by the State Government for the elections to the urban local bodies (ULB).
In a release on Wednesday, SEC Deputy Secretary H.S. Udayashankar said the election authorities had been asked to consider only the earlier reservation list for these polls.
Such a direction had been issued in the wake of the Karnataka High Court issuing a stay on the notifications of the Urban Development Department regarding changes in the ward reservation, he said. The Government had changed the reservation of more than 60 wards in the State, he pointed out.
He made it clear that the election would be held as per the calendar of events announced by the commission.
