HYDERABAD: Tamil Nadu Health Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran visited the Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI),which provides emergency response services, here on Wednesday. He wanted the organisation to start similar operations in his State by January 14 next.
Venkat Changavalli, CEO of EMRI, briefed the Minister and the accompanying officials on the institute’s activities.
Mr. Ramachandran who came along with a team of officials, was requested to send a letter of intent formally recognising EMRI as nodal agency for launching the services. Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat Governments had already recognised EMRI as the nodal agency. The institute is in the process of signing an MoU with Madhya Pradesh. The Governments of Kerala, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra and Rajasthan have also evinced interest.
Insurance scheme
Mr. Ramachandran also visited the Health Management Research Institute (HMRI) and the Arogyasri Health Care Trust.
P.K. Agarwal, Principal Secretary, Health, and A. Babu, Chief Executive Officer of the Trust, explained the salient features of the health insurance scheme under which 4,632 surgeries were conducted for patients hailing from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families at a cost of Rs.26.02 crore. The average cost of a surgery works out to Rs.56,182.
