Good knocks by Gaurav, Amit

BANGALORE: All-rounder Gaurav Dhiman’s 78 and Amit Verma’s 61 helped Karnataka score 234 against Western Australia in the two-day match that commenced at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday.

Western Australia won the toss, opted to field and found rich dividends as seamer Trent Kelly bagged four wickets (four for 37).

However, Gaurav’s breezy knock (78, 49b, 12x4, 3x6) propped up the Karnataka innings and he along with Amit Verma and Ganesh Satish (43), helped the host inch past the 200-mark. In reply, Western Australia scored 176 for two at draw of stumps and is just 58 runs adrift off Karnataka’s total. Luke Pomersbachscored 79, and along with Clint Heron (47), anchored the innings.

The scores: Karnataka 234 in 55.1 overs (Gaurav Dhiman 78, Amit Verma 61, Ganesh Satish 43, Trent Kelly four for 37) vs. Western Australia 176 for two in 29 overs (Luke Pomersbach 79, Clint Heron 47). — Principal Correspondent
