BANGALORE: Sports Authority of India (SAI) defended doggedly and in the process managed to keep the marauding ASC at bay for a goalless draw in a super division football league match at the Football Stadium here on Wednesday. ASC, the ‘A’ division champion, promoted to the elite league, seems to be out of depth at this level. After having lost to BEL (1-2) and MEG (0-4), much was expected of the Army outfit against a young SAI outfit. Unable to breachBut sadly, despite seeing more of the ball, ASC could not breach the last line of the rival defence. Dada Farid Khan, under the SAI citadel, was not exactly confidence personified, but he did manage to thwart a couple of attempts. Santosh Kumar fired the first salvo for ASC in the fourth minute, but the ball deflected out off the far upright, with Dada Farid rooted in the middle. Later, Raju Biswas headed wide a cross from Choudhary. For SAI, wing-back Madhukara did strive in vain with overlapping runs down the left flank, but he got little support upfront. With this draw, ASC opened its account after three outings, while SAI has five points from four matches (one win and two draws). Kiran scored a hat-trick in Nationals thumping 9-0 win over HMT in an ‘A’ division encounter. Kiran scored in the 47th, 48th and 59th minutes, while Rajeev Verma (12th, 22nd), Robin D’Souza (45th), S. Dhruv Kumar (67th, 73rd) and Om Prakash (79th) got the other goals for the winner. Nationals has won both its matches thus far, while this was the opening fixture for HMT.
