Dhyan Chand hockey

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fifth Major Dhyan Chand memorial South India inter-collegiate hockey tournament will be held at the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education, Kariyavattom, from Thursday.

Ten teams including last year’s winner Fathima Matha National College, Kollam and runner-up Department of Physical Education, Annamalai University have confirmed their participation in the three-day event being conducted on a knock-out basis.

The other teams in the fray are: Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, St. John’s College, Palayamkottai, Bharatha Matha College, Ernakulam, Jamal Mohammed College, Tiruchi, S.N. College, Kollam, U.C. College, Aluva and St. Albert’s College, Ernakulam besides the host LNCPE.

Giving details at a press conference on Wednesday, the LNCPE principal, S.S. Hasrani and Deputy Director, G. Isaac said the tournament normally organised as part of the National Sports Day celebrations had to be postponed this year due to inclement weather conditions.

The Minister for Revenue, K.P. Rajendran, will inaugurate the tournament.
