Jamal Mohamed College enters semifinals

Theni: Jamal Mohamed College (Tiruchi) and Yadava College (Madurai) topped their respective pools with all-win records in the league and qualified for the knock-out semifinals of the second annual Hajee Kamtha Rowther memorial Trophy State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament at Uthamapalayam on Wednesday.

The other two teams to qualify for the semifinals are Ayya Nadar Janakiammal College (Sivakasi) and Kalasalingam University (Krishnankovil) with two wins and a loss each.

AUCPE triumphs

At Ramanathapuram, Alagappa University College of Physical Education finished on top with an all-win record in both the men’s and women’s three-team league to win the titles in the Alagappa University inter-collegiate basketball tournament at Kilakarai on Tuesday.

Nehru FC posts win

At Madurai, Nehru Football Club rallied to beat TVS Soccer Club 3-2 in the High-Tech Arai Trophy Madurai District Football Association ‘A’ division league on Wednesday.

Saravanakumar put TVS SC in the lead with a 21st minute strike and Shewag scored the second goal in the 43rd minute.

Arunkumar reduced the margin in the 67th minute and Balasundaram scored the equaliser in the 83rd minute. Michael Das scored the winner two minutes from close.

Ananda College advances

At Karaikudi, Mesiya’s goal helped Ananda College (Devakottai) defeat Sethapathy Government Arts College (Devakottai) 1-0 and enter the semifinals of the Alagappa University inter-collegiate football tournament on Wednesday.

At Nagercoil, a brace by Sheriff helped ST Hindu College (Nagercoil) defeat Pioneer Kumarasamy College (Nagercoil) 2-0 in the Manonmanian Sundaranar University inter-collegiate football tournament at Thuthur on Wednesday.

Volleyball league

At Madurai the Madurai District Volleyball Association will organise the district colleges volleyball league for men and women for the Agri Cup from September 17.
