THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has requested the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to bring out the identity of the ‘VIP’ involved in the Kiliroor case as well, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told the Assembly on Wednesday. Mr. Achuthanandan, who was responding to a point of order raised by Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, said the Government had urged the CBI to hold a high-level inquiry into the case in the light of a memorandum submitted to him by the parents of Shari, the girl who had died allegedly after becoming the victim of a sex racket. (The CBI is already inquiring into the Kiliroor sex scandal.) The Chief Minister termed baseless the Opposition campaign that he was the first to speak about the involvement of a ‘VIP’ in the case. It was the doctor who had treated the girl who had told him about the ‘VIP.’ Although he had tried repeatedly to get the doctor to divulge the identity of the ‘VIP,’ he had refused to do so. Mr. Chandy wanted to know if he would hand over the letter he had received from Shari’s parents to the CBI. The question resulted in some sharp exchanges between them and the Opposition members. Power Minister A.K Balan said many key documents relating to the case had gone missing when Mr. Chandy was the Chief Minister. The Opposition leader retorted that the last Government had done everything necessary in the matter.
