A fitting finish to a glittering event

Vivekananda College diamond jubilee celebrations draw to a close

CHENNAI: The six-day-long valedictory of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Mylapore, a glittering affair marked by the participation of eminent personalities, exhibitions and concerts, concluded on Wednesday.

The last day of the valedictory celebrations focussed on Swami Vivekananda and his teachings. Participating in the function, an alumnus of the college and former chairman of Indian Bank T.S. Raghavan highlighted the life and preachings of Swami Vivekananda.

A favourite disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda emphasised on service to the needy and upholding the traditions and culture of the nation. He underlined the significance of nurturing patriotism and facing challenges and failures with courage, Mr. Raghavan said. Self-esteem was another quality that Swami Vivekananda preached throughout his life, he added. Mr. Raghavan urged the students to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda for a better and organised lifestyle.

Play staged

A play on Swami Vivekananda titled ‘Narendra’ was performed by Prayatna, a drama tr0oupe headed by an alumnus of the college K. Vivekshankar, before a packed audience comprising monks of the Ramakrishna Mission and the college’s past and present students.

College secretary Atmaghanananda and principal in-charge G. Srinivasa Prabhu participated.
