HYDERABAD: Possible options to deflect earth-threatening objects, an overview of the current programmes and future plans of leading space agencies, applications of space technology in poverty alleviation are among the topics slated for discussion at the prestigious 58th International Astronautical Congress to be held here from September 24 to 28.
India-born American astronaut Sunita Williams will be one of the star speakers at the event.
After the inauguration of an International Space Expo on September 24, the heads of various space agencies will address a plenary session. The lecture on ‘Earth-threatening asteroids’ will highlight the 2036 close approach of asteroid ‘Apophis’ which is currently predicted to have a one in 45,000 chance of impacting the earth.
