BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has made elaborate arrangements for the immersion of Ganesha idols in old and newly added areas.

BBMP Commissioner S. Subramanya told The Hindu that the immersion ponds in Sankey Tank, Ulsoor Lake and Yediyur Lake were ready. Appealing to people not to buy painted idols, the Commissioner said idols less than five-foot could be immersed in the designated tanks.

“People will have to make their own arrangements to immerse idols above five feet,” he said.

Announcing a ban on bursting of crackers and use of loudspeakers during processions, the Commissioner said arrangements had been made for safe and easy immersion under the supervision of BBMP staff and local police for over a week from September 15.

“Barricades will be installed to help smooth movement of devotees and the designated entry and exit points will be well guarded. Ten expert swimmers will be posted at each of the tanks to prevent any untoward incident,” he said.

He said that the BBMP officials had identified tanks where the idols could be immersed in the new zones of Bommanahalli, Rajajeshwarinagar, Mahadevapura, Dasarahalli and Byatarayanapura. Following are the designated tanks in the areas.

Bommanahalli: Ibbalur tank, Chikkabegur tank, Parappana Agrahara tank, Koodlu tank, Puttenahalli tank, Kothanur tank, Ganapatipura tank, Kembatthalli tank, Anjanapura tank and Doddakallasandra tank.

Rajajeshwarinagar: Gandhinagar tank of Kengeri, Mallathalli tank of Nagarabhavi, Bhuvaneshwarinagar tank of Subramanyapura and Gublalu tank.

Mahadevapura: Vengayyana tank of K.R. Puram, ITI Swimming pool of Ramamurthynagar and Kallakere, Seemanthana tank of Narayanapura near Whitefield, Mahadevapura tank, Giddaiahna tank, Basabannanagar tank, Garudacharpalya tank and Devarabeesanahalli tank.

Dasarahalli: Madavara tank and Herohalli tank.

Byatarayanapura: Amani tank of Yelahanka.

According to an official press release, devotees will be permitted to perform immersion till 11 p.m. Puja items should be dropped in the designated bins kept at the lake sites. Silt from the immersion ponds will be removed on a day-to-day basis.

BDA too

Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has facilitated idol immersion near Lalbagh Gate. Decorated tankers filled with water will be stationed at the entrance of Lalbagh Basavanagudi gate from September 15 to 19 and idols up to two-and-a-half feet can be immersed in tankers.

Special kalyanis have been created at Yediyur/Ulsoor and Sankey tanks for larger idols.
