New device

Bangalore: With a view to reach newborns in medically underserved areas, doctors from the St. John’s Medical College Hospital in collaboration with scientists at the Indian Institute of Science have developed a low cost device to screen newborns for hearing impairment.

The hospital said the tool will facilitate affordable screening of infants, especially in rural areas.

The screening test can be done by anganwadi workers for early detection of hearing impairment in infants. – Staff Reporter
