Hope for children affected by cerebral palsy

Experts moot rehabilitation centre in Medak district

SANGAREDDY: Experts who are in the field of treating cerebral palsy mooted the establishment of a rehabilitation centre in Medak district headquarters which organized a free camp for the cerebral palsy affected children in the month of July.

Renowned palsy expert Subba Rao of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences speaking to the reporters here on Thursday said that a permanent facility would help in taking care of the medical and educational needs of the rehabilitated children.

Progress

Mr. Rao was here to check the progress of the children who were given free treatment during the camps held at the district headquarters hospital.

At a camp organized at the MNR Medical College he handed over callipers and shoes for 75 children who have undergone corrective surgeries or received the Botox injection given for better muscle coordination under the aegis of Indira Kranti Patham programme.

Physiotherapy

Of them, 57 children received the injection and extensive physiotherapy.

Botox injections were given free of cost to the children. These injections were supplied by the manufacturers at a subsidized rate and the callipers were donated by the Lions Club of Secunderabad.

In addition to the already enrolled children, another 24 children attended the camp held at the medical college on Thursday.

Another camp

Encouraged by the response, the additional project director of IKP, Srinivasulu announced that another camp would be held here on 25 of this month.

He further informed that the Indira Kranthi Patham programme was spending Rs. 50,000 on each child including expenditure for their stay and food.

So far 632 children in the district were identified to be suffering with either cerebral palsy or other neurological disorders.
