Residents move High Court against wedding hall

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Several residents of Chamarajpet, 4th Main Road, Bangalore, petitioned the Karnataka High Court against a wedding hall that had come up in the vicinity.

The petitioners said the kalyana mantapa had become a nuisance as people coming to it were parking cars and other vehicles on the footpaths and on roads. Besides, the leftovers of food served in the mantapa were littered all along the road.

The residents urged the court to ensure that the traffic in the area is regulated.

A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice Anand Byrareddy, ordered issue of notice to the respondents and adjourned further hearing on the case.

Building violations

Several residents of Mangalore on Thursday petitioned the High Court against the amendment to certain provisions of the Town and Country Planning Act and regularising illegal constructions or deviations in buildings. The petitioners claimed that there are more than 60 illegal high-rise structures in Mangalore and that they had violated several provisions of building laws. Even the Lokayukta had given a report against them. They said the period of regularisation of such illegal constructions would commence from Friday and urged the court to stay it. A Division Bench ordered issue of notices to the State and other respondents and adjourned further hearing on the case.

Transfer

A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice Anand Byrareddy, on Thursday asked the Government to explain why the Government had transferred two forest officials and not given them postings. The Bench adjourned the case to Monday.
