dated September 14, 1957: Tribute to Bharati

The Information Minister, Dr. B.V. Keskar, has said that the writings of Subramanya Bharati have contributed greatly to the national, intellectual and cultural regeneration of India. Dr. Keskar was speaking at a function organised in New Delhi on September 11 by the National Cultural Organisation in memory of Bharati. Mr. K. Santhanam, Chairman of the Finance Commission, presided. Dr. Keskar said it was not only political leaders but thinkers and writers too who built up the national life of a country. Bharati’s place was with such great writers and thinkers as Tagore and Ranade. Referring to the antiquity and richness of Tamil language and literature, he said its contribution to the country’s cultural heritage was as great as that of any other language. Tamils could claim they were among the original contributors to Indian culture.
