TIRUNELVELI: Impounding of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) buses for not honouring court verdicts on accident compensation has resulted in passengers facing hardship owing to a drastic cut in the number of services to various destinations in Tirunelveli district.
While 12 impounded buses are parked on the District Court Complex, another six around the Kasi Viswanathaswamy Temple at Tenkasi.
The public of Tenkasi and the TNSTC workers allege that no step has been taken by the Department of Transport to pay compensation to the accident victims.
Frequency of bus services from Tirunelveli to Tenkasi has been badly hit, the public complain.
When the court personnel impounded 12 buses, including 10 new vehicles, and brought them to the district court premises on Thursday, it resembled a mini-bus stand.
“ The TNSTC might have lost over Rs.50 lakh during this fiscal due to the seizure,” said the CITU transport wing secretary, C. Muthukrishnan.
