TDP charges Congress with string-pulling

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: TDP Polit Bureau member Umareddy Venkateswarulu has said that the welfare schemes are aimed at strengthening the Congress party rather than benefiting the poor and this was clear if the levels of favouritism in pensions, allotment of houses under Indiramma, etc are any indication. At a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Venkateswarulu, who came here to participate in ‘palle palleku TDP’ programme, said that the benefits of welfare schemes were reaching only Congress workers. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had forgotten the promises he made during ‘palle baata’ and ‘nagara baata’, he said and added that very few people were allotted houses under ‘Indiramma’. He ridiculed Minister for Housing Botsa Satyanarayana for hastily announcing ‘voluntary corruption disclosure scheme’ and withdrawing it immediately after his own party men at the DRC meeting in Kurnool raised a hue and cry over the scheme.
