TIRUCHI: The Inspectorate of Matriculation Schools (IMS) here has been provided with a four-wheeler by the Government. The vehicle sanctioned here is among the seven provided to IMS offices throughout the State. The seven new posts of IMS Inspectors were created about five years ago in addition to the existing ones in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore. The registration process was completed over a week and the vehicle has been cleared for use. The provision of vehicles is a huge relief for IMS inspectors under each of whose jurisdiction falls hundreds of schools spread over three districts. Hitherto, the objectivity of the inspections carried out by the IMS inspectors was under a shadow since they mostly depended on the vehicles provided by the schools where they go for inspection. Now, the IMS offices that have been provided with the new vehicles have been permitted by the Government to appoint ex-servicemen as drivers in lieu of consolidated pay. The advantage for IMS inspectors in having own vehicles is that they could carry out surprise inspections of matriculation schools. There is more relief on the cards for IMS offices since the Government is due to sanction posts for administrative activities, according to official sources.
