‘Badhi’ to be released today

Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: ‘Badhi’, a Tulu film directed by eminent director-producer Richard Castelino, which received the best regional film award this year, will hit theatres here on Friday. Dealing with the issue of dowry, the 152-minute-long film is a joint venture of Rajalakshmi Productions, Bangalore, and Bhagyalakshmi Productions, Mangalore, and is co-produced by Dr. Castelino and R.H. Quadros.

Talking to presspersons here on Thursday, Dr. Castelino said that although he had planned to simultaneously release the movie in Bangalore, Udupi and Mangalore, he was doing so only in Mangalore because of non-availability of exhibitors in the other two cities. Stating that the movie would be screened at Jyothi and Adlabs theatres here, Dr. Castelino said a major portion of the film had been shot on locations in and around the city. Noting that ‘Badhi’ had earned the distinction of getting a State award even before its release, he said it augured well for the growth and development of regional language cinema in general. There were quite a few regional language films in Tulu, Konkani and Kodava in the pipeline, he said. “This, however, should not be done with an eye on an award,” he said. On his future projects, Dr. Castelino said ‘Ponamma’, a Kodava film, was slated for release in January.
