EMPOWERMENT: M.N. Manjunatha, Deputy General of Police - Coimbatore Range, handing over diploma certificate to a girl who successfully completed a course at the Advanced Institute of Moral and Modern Science for Women, in the city on Tuesday. — COIMBATORE: Participation of women in overall development is only a poor 40 per cent. This is a result of less number of women opting for education. Educational opportunities for women, especially in the Muslim community, are very less compared to that of boys, M.N. Manjunatha, Deputy Inspector General of Police – Coimbatore Range, said here on Tuesday. Handing over diplomas to women who have successfully completed a course at the Advanced Institute of Moral and Modern Science for Women, he said that knowledge acquisition should be equal for both boys and girls. Appreciating the institute’s initiative in providing such a course, he said: “Getting a chance to study both moral and modern science is a unique opportunity. There are many who say that religion and science cannot be taught under a single roof. It is not true.” He urged the women to develop their power of reasoning and logic to participate and achieve in society. That was the only way to acquire self-esteem, he said. Members of the Coimbatore Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, spoke.
