CPI(M): reject recommendation on gas pricing

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday said the recommendation of the Empowered Group of Ministers on gas pricing should be rejected in the public interest.

In a statement here, the party’s Polit Bureau said that in spite of serious objections raised in and outside Parliament as well as Opposition from the Power and Fertilizer Ministers, the EGOM had reportedly permitted Reliance Industries Limited to fix a highly inflated gas price of $4.2 per unit from the KG basin which is a token reduction from the original price of $4.33 per unit.

“Such a high price will affect the viability of the consumer industries like power and fertilizers which in turn would hit the common man, especially the farming community because of escalation in cost of power and fertilizers,” the Polit Bureau said.
