Davydenko beaten

BEIJING: Croatian teenager Marin Cilic shocked World No. 4 and top seed Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the China Open here.

Bhupathi-Bopanna lose

Chris Haggard of South Africa and Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory over the top-seeded Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna in the doubles first round.

Bopanna could not recover fully from the injury that he had suffered during the singles event earlier in the tournament. “It’s still hurting. I plan to rest for a few days and hope to get ready for the Mumbai ATP Tour event,” said Bopanna.

Incidentally, Bhupathi had won the tournament in 1997 with Leander Paes and last year with Mario Ancic of Croatia.

The results: At Beijing (ATP China Open): Second round: Marin Cilic bt Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 6-4; Nicolas Kiefer bt Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-4.

At Nusa Dua (Indonesia): WTA Bali International: Second round: Sara Errani bt Anabel Medina Garrigues 7-5, 4-6, 6-4; Aiko Nakamura bt Youlia Fedossova 6-2, 6-2.
