NAMAKKAL: Officials should ensure greater transparency in the administration, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan has said.
She was speaking at the District Monitoring and Vigilance Committee meeting held here on Tuesday. The Minister said that officials should give proper reply to the petitions seeking information under the Right to Information Act.
She said that elected representatives of local bodies and officials should work in close coordination. Officials should inform elected representatives about the progress of works during the meetings in panchayat union offices.
The Minister said that the funds allotted by the Union and State governments for various works were being used effectively for development programmes in the district. She appreciated the district officials for carrying out various projects effectively and ensuring transparency.
Presiding over the meeting, Collector G. Sundaramurthi, said that the district had become a model to others in the implementation of schemes including free colour television, two-acre free land scheme and distribution of free house sites.
