Ex-vigilance chief challenges A.P. Ministers

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Former Vigilance Commissioner R. C. Samal, who kicked up a row with his comments on corruption at higher levels of administration, has challenged Home Minister K. Jana Reddy and others to file defamation suits and claim compensation if they are confident that his charges are wrong.

“It is an open challenge. They have a right to sue me if they are aggrieved and I am prepared to defend myself,” he said. Mr. Samal dismissed the Minister’s remarks over his mental condition, claiming that Mr. Reddy had made the comments to defend himself. “I have maintained credibility throughout my long years of service. Or else why should anyone speak about my sanity,” he asked.

Expressing his willingness for a debate on corruption in high places, he said he would be “very happy” if the ongoing war of words ends and the battle for truth starts. Mr. Samal exuded confidence that his move would have a positive impact.
