PROUD CHAMPION: Pankaj Advani with the Arthur Walker Trophy.

Bangalore: A triumphant Pankaj Advani returned home from Singapore on Saturday after retaining the IBSF World billiards title. In the final he beat his teammate Dhruv Sitwala 1963-1489.

Pankaj termed the victory as a high point in his career. In a chat with The Hindu, the 22-year old champion said: “It was a highly satisfying win and I had to dig deep into my reserves to stay on course. There was, of course time pressure also. I came pretty good in the last hour.”

Does the win make him more self confident now? Pat came the answer from Pankaj. “I was never low on confidence, either at the Asian Games at Doha or in the recent event at Myanmar, where I made an early exit (he lost in the pre-quarterfinals).”
