Eye-catching: People having a look at the products on sale at the expo in the city.

MADURAI: ‘Dinamalar Smart Shoppers Expo 2007’ kicked off here on Friday with the District Collector, S.S. Jawahar, inaugurating the fair at Tamukkam Ground.

Primarily focusing on fulfilling the needs of households, the exhibition features a wide range of home appliances and consumer durables such as kitchen utensils, vessels, modern water heating gadgets and so on.

Women are sure to find this exhibition attractive as there are plenty of things that are bound to interest them, apart from the home appliances. Garments and the pickles stall, featuring about a dozen types, proved to be a sure draw.

While a separate air-conditioned enclosure has been erected, the Tamukkam Auditorium houses an aquarium featuring over 130 varieties.

The auditorium also has stalls where beauty tips and cookery lessons are being given.

Mehendi will also be drawn for women free of cost.

Health advices are also being imparted by Apollo Speciality Hospitals.

Meenakshi Mission Hospitals and Research Centre will be conducting health camps for hearing problems, diabetes, paediatric care and dermatology in the evenings between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The exhibition concludes on Monday.

It will be open between 10.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m.

While the air-conditioned enclosure will cost Rs. 10 a person, entry to the auditorium is free.
