The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has issued notification for revision of the rental values in the city. Though the corporation contends that property tax of the residential properties would not be enhanced, it is evident from the notification that the government has plans to hike the property tax in near future. Else, the government would not have issued orders to revise the rental values for residential properties also. Burra Sivakumara Sastry Vijayawada Hoax callsSeveral schools in the city went agog with hoax bomb calls a couple of days ago. The number of hoax calls to the schools in the city has increased in recent times. Ironically, majority of the schools have no caller identification facility for their telephones. It is time to educate the people and students that making hoax calls would ultimately land them in jail. More importantly, people should understand that bomb disposal and dog squads would not be available in the case of a real emergency. Pappu Hanumantha Rao Vijayawada Computerise bus pass counterThe long-awaited computerised bus pass counter at Kankipadu bus station has not taken shape as yet. As a result, the computerised bus pass holders of the area are forced to go to Vijayawada to get their bus passes renewed. It is time to take immediate steps to computerise the existing bus pass counter at Kankipadu. L.V.S. Kameswara Rao Vijayawada Speed up, BSNLThe BSNL has made announcements in January and March that it is going to introduce triple play (telephone, broadband and television) in Vijayawada by August. It said that the required infrastructure has already been established and is awaiting nod from higher-ups. They can do some groundwork in the meanwhile by supplying set top boxes to those who are interested and beam free to air channels. The delay is definitely a great advantage to private players. Kowta Sriprakas Vijayawada BJP daydreaming? The BJP State executive meeting held at Guntur has given a clarion call to its cadre to get closer to the people and gear up for elections. It is not first time that the BJP leaders are airing such views. They should realise that it would be daydream to have such high expectations. Syed Pasha Guntur
