Placards cautioning people against buying fake medicines catch the eye
Ganesh as a policeman catching a fake drugs dealer at a puja pandal at Chandramanipeta in Berhampur. BERHAMPUR: Lord Ganesha has donned the garb of policeman to catch a fake drug racketeer at a Ganesh Puja Pandal in the city. Many Ganesh Puja pandals of the city have tried to depict contemporary issues and the pandal at Chandramanipeta Street is drawing most crowds as it has touched the issue of fake drugs racket. It may be noted that large-scale fake drugs racket in the State is being unearthed in phases in the State since February. At this pandal, the statue of lord Ganesha is placed against the back drop of a set that looks like a medicine shop. The idol of Lord Ganesha wears the dress of a police officer who has arrested a fake drugs trader. The prayers written on the decorated set say “As the State Government has failed to take proper action against the fake drug racketeers, it is now up to you Lord Ganesha to take action against these demons of modern era”. Near the pandal instructions were written on small placards educating general public about small precautions which they can take while buying medicines so they can getaway from buying fake medicines. At another pandal at Bada Bazar Gouda street the idol of Lord Ganesha has been placed in front of the replica of ICC twenty-twenty world cup trophy. Enthused by the popularity of sequels Spiderman movies, youths of Desiri street of the city decided to worship Lord Ganesha in spiderman avatar this year. The idol of lord Ganesha at this pandal wore the costume of spiderman spinning webs although he had an elephant’s head hidden behind spiderman’s mask. At many pandals, artists have experimented by trying to give lord Ganesha the look of Lord Jagannath. At some places different mediums like beads, pulses and flowers were used to prepare special idols of lord Ganesha.
