Staff Reporter

YSR seized of the matter, says Shinde

Decision on Sasan project likely in few days

State bags first position in ranking of power sectors

DEEPANJALINAGAR (VISAKHAPATNAM DT.): Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Sunday said that no decision had been taken on the proposal of Hinduja Group to revive their jinxed power project near the city.

He told reporters after laying the foundation stone for Rs.5,038-crore 1,000 MW stage-II Simhadri Super Thermal Power Project here that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was seized of the matter.

“I have asked Dr. Reddy to discuss various aspects,” was his reply to a question on the status of Hindujas’ plan to seek land to revive the project.

The Hinduja National Power Corporation had dropped it after the then Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao laid the foundation stone for the project in mid-1990s due to differences over unit cost and failure to achieve financial closure.

Ultra mega project

On ultra mega projects, he said a decision on Sasan power project in Madhya Pradesh was likely in a few days keeping in view recommendations of Group of Ministers.

He said an ultra modern project with a capacity of 4,000 mw was proposed at Krishnapatnam besides adding 5,500 mw of capacity in the State under Eleventh Plan.

Praising the leadership of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he said the State was playing pro-active role in implementing reforms in the power sector.

He did not commit on State’s plea for allotment of 850 mw from the power to be generated from stage-II of Simhadri project and compensation to the State for not getting its due share from the NTPC grid, the Union Minister said he would examine the plea.
