Jamshedpur: A lawyer, who was allegedly confined by a couple for 45 days at their house here, was stabbed by the abductors even as the police attempted to rescue him on Saturday.
The lawyer Sadan Kumar Chatterjee was rushed to Tata main hospital where he died, police said. According to a complaint lodged by the lawyer’s family, he had gone missing on July 31. After Arbindo Guha wrote to the administration that he was holding the lawyer captive because he wanted ‘justice’ in a property dispute, the police arrived on the scene. The police along with members of Jamshedpur Bar Association tried to hold talks with the kidnappers, but Guha and his wife threatened to immolate themselves if anyone dared approach. The police then broke open the door, but Guha reportedly stabbed the lawyer fatally, the sources said. Guha, who was beaten up by a mob, his wife and son were arrested. — PTI
