Crescent School wins volleyball titles

Crescent Higher Secondary School, Avaniapuram, Thanjavur district, won the titles in the under-17 and 16 age categories at the district-level volleyball tournament, conducted by the Thanjavur unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu recently. The school team has qualified for the State-level tournament in both the categories. Correspondent M.A. Jamal Abdul Gani, Vice-president A. Haji Mohamed, Headmaster A. Sagul Hameed and Physical Education teachers S. Shanmugam and K. Suresh Kumar felicitated the students.

Al-Ameen students bag 14 medals

Students of Al-Ameen Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam, performed well at the Thanjavur district-level yoga competition conducted by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu Yogasana Association at the Annai Sathya Stadium recently. They secured four gold, four silver and six bronzes at the event. Correspondent M. Kamaludeen and Principal S. Syed Abdul Subahan commended the efforts of the students.

Free uniforms distributed

Village Education Committee (VEC) president Malaiyappan distributed free school uniforms to students of classes VI to VIII of Maruthanthalai village Government High School in Annavasal block in Pudukottai district. School Headmaster A. Soosai presided over the function. VEC vice-president Marimuthu and other teachers spoke.

School honours SSLC rankers

Three students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School at Vadugapatti near Viralimalai, who secured school-level top ranks in the SSLC examinations held in March this year were honoured at a function recently. Jeevajothi, Banumathi and Sushila, who secured the first three ranks, got Rs. 10,001, 501 and 301 respectively. Kurichipatti Panchayat Union Primary School Parent-Teacher Association president Senthilnathan gave away the prizes. Headmistress Augustine Peter Fathima and Vadugapatti Village Panchayat President Durairaj felicitated the students.

NSS members raise saplings

The National Service Scheme students of Mannargudi National Higher Secondary School are engaged in raising saplings in polythene bags for distribution to Isha Yoga Centre’s "Pasumai Karangal" tree planting programme. The Yoga Centre proposes to plant 2.5 crore saplings throughout Tamil Nadu of which one lakh saplings will be around Mannargudi.

According to school NSS programme officer N. Rajappa, the saplings are grown with guidance from S. Tamil Selvan and Pitchaikannu, office-bearers of the Yoga centre. The saplings will be given to the public free from September 21, said a press release issued here on Monday.

Junior Chamber holds talent examination

Junior Chamber International (JCI), Mayiladuturai, conducted National Level Talent Search (NLTS) examination at Kittappa Municipal Higher Secondary School, D.B.T.R. National HSS, Arivalayam Matriculation HSS and ARC Kamatchi Matriculation HSS in Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district last week. Nearly 1,200 students wrote the examination being conducted throughout the country.

V. Raman, JCI zone president, Mayiladuturai, said that the JCI was conducting the examination for the X, XI and XII standard students in the country to improve their knowledge and was awarding Rs.11,000, Rs.7,000 and Rs.5,000 at national level and Rs.2,000, Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 as first, second and third prizes respectively at zonal level. Each zone comprises nine revenue districts in Tamil Nadu, he said.

Founder’s day celebrated

Ramakrishna Higher Secondary School at Kothandapuram near Kollidam in Nagapattinam district celebrated Founder’s day last week. School Correspondent Venkata Parthasarathy presided. Parents-Teachers’ Association president Senguttuvan, Headmaster Mohan and others spoke.

Girls take kabaddi tourney title

The Gurugnanasambandar Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Mayiladuturai in Nagapattinam district emerged winners in the inter-school kabbadi tournament for girls in Mayiladuturai educational district last week.

Srilasri Shanmugha Desika Paramacharya Swamigal, Head of the Dharmapuram Adheenam Mutt and patron of the school, blessed and honoured the girls who won the championship.

First aid training

The Red Cross Society conducted a day’s training on first aid and rescue operations for teachers of middle schools of Sirkazhi and Kollidam blocks at Sabanayaga Mudaliar Hindu Higher Secondary School at Sirkazhi. Headmaster Mani Shanmugam explained the objectives of the training .

Awareness programme


Directorate of Field Publicity conducted an HIV/AIDS awareness programme at Government Higher Secondary School, Karai, Alathur Block, in Perambalur district recently.

Earlier, about 60 students of class XI took part in a quiz programme conducted jointly by Akila Bharathi, a non-governmental organisation.

Alathur Panchayat Union chairman K. Muthukannu, presided.

Assistant Headmistress Chitra and Tiruchi Field Publicity Officer M. Therasnathan offered felicitations.
